Spotlight on Sarah King, founder of Sarah King Interiors, making design accessible for everyone

Sarah King tells us more about her business and her friendly team, dedicated to taking the stigma and stress out of interior design and architectural projects.

How it all Started

Design has always been my passion. Since the age of 7, telling my parents I was going to be an artist and then my grandad making me a dolls house had a lot to answer for! I loved to redecorate and would always make things for the house. Over 25 years later nothing has changed! Apart from working on a bigger scale and a getting more technical!

Since graduating with an Interior Architecture degree I have gained over a decade of experience in residential & commercial interior design. After working in various interior design/architects practices, I started Sarah King Interiors at the end of  2021. Last year the team grew when Robbie and Michele came on board.

We are a friendly team with over 40 years experience who aim to make interior design approachable whilst combating the stigma attached to it. Our tailored approach to each project - whether its inspiration, mood boards or full design, construction drawing packages or project management. We can help on a vast range of projects and needs taking the stress out of the process.

Approachable Interior design service

Sarah King Interiors is taking the stigma out of interior design and offering a unique approach. Interior design has a reputation and unfortunately this makes it feel unapproachable to many that could benefit from it, not just for the look of their houses but the feel. This could mean better well-being, better accessibility and so much more!

We also work on commercial projects to help businesses by transforming their properties to best promote themselves, are able to advise from our extensive experience working on hospitality projects including restaurants, bars, pubs and hotels. We love to work alongside businesses to get the best out of their locations.

The design process doesn’t have to be confusing or complicated. I’ve noticed this is one of the main things that clients are reluctant about, so we always make this simple and communicate with our clients throughout the process.

Another stigma is the costs of interior design, yes it is a luxury service but not every design has to be ‘designer’ or bespoke. Fees are set for each project - these are made up of the experience, talent, advise and hard work that goes into each and every element of the project to ensure the best outcome.

However we can work to any budgets for works and furnishings, as we believe that all homes and businesses deserve to be the best they can be and make anyone who steps inside at home, comfortable and excited to be there. We ensure 100% transparency with no hidden costs and we only work with suppliers and trades who do the same. At every stage we design specifically for unique requirements and ensure that we deliver exactly what is needed. We can also can project manage projects taking the stress out of the whole process including onsite/construction. We hold regular meetings with the construction company and trades overseeing the process to ensure the design is being implemented as intended and are on hand to promptly answer and queries from both trades and clients.

“It’s all about how a space makes you feel, the story it tells, what adventure it takes you on. It should make you smile, create intrigue and feel at home - wherever it may be”

Creating community through design

We have lots of exciting plans ahead!  Of course a very exciting recent development is that we are now officially part of the Connected100 and we are excited to meet and get to know everyone in the Connected Brighton community and attend events.

We are Finalists!

Yes that’s right - finalists!  Just this week we had the news that we are finalists, shortlisted for the Construction & Building Services Start Up of the year award from the UK Start Up Awards. We are very excited and proud of this and looking forward to the awards announcements in May (keep your fingers crossed for us!)

Launching our E- design Service

In April we are launching a new E-design package which will allow people from all over the UK and even globally to work with us on their homes. As this package will be remote we have a simple step by step guide to measure and let us know any information needed. We then set to work!

We will produce for each booked room, a design, floor plan/layout, mood board, colour suggestions, furniture, lighting and accessory options. We E-present the designs, answer any questions and send a clickable shopping list with all details of items we have sourced. The design can then be bought to life! Our favourite thing to see is the outcome when a project is finished project that our clients love and are so proud of. Although we won’t get to visit the homes we design with the E-Design we are excited to see photos of finished designs!

Exciting restaurant designs

We are currently have a project onsite which is a new Persian restaurant in Brighton lanes -  opening in June. We will announce an opening date nearer the time and keep updating our social media with the projects progress. We love working with hospitality to bring sociable spaces to life.

Providing insightful workshops and talks

We are looking to hold workshops and talks in Brighton and surrounding areas, starting later this year. A combination of fun and informative sessions, mostly based on interiors - it’s kind of our thing! But also throwing in some seasonal workshops

Charity work

We also plan to work on projects for local charities including potentially working on housing for women coming out of abusive relationships. Supporting our local community and giving back to those who need help.

Come join us on our exciting happenings, follow us and get in touch to talk all things interior design!
