Meet The Hair Salon: Five Years of Creativity, Community and Sustainable Hairdressing in Hove

The Hair Salon is an award-winning, independent collective of freelance stylists, known for its relaxed, inclusive atmosphere and its genuine commitment to sustainability, using vegan and cruelty-free products throughout.
As they celebrate their fifth birthday this year, they're taking a moment to introduce themselves to the wider Brighton & Hove community. In this blog, they share their story so far, from recent national recognition and award wins to charity walks and community projects, and a look at what's next.
At The Hair Salon in Hove, hair is only part of our story.
For the last five years, our independent salon has been a creative and welcoming space for both clients and stylists. Great hair, sustainability and community sit at the heart of everything we do. As we celebrate our fifth birthday this year, we wanted to properly introduce ourselves to more local businesses, collaborators and the wider Brighton & Hove community.
A creative space for independent stylists
Based in the heart of Hove, The Hair Salon is home to a collective of freelance stylists. Each stylist runs their own business while working together within a shared salon space. This flexible approach creates a supportive environment for both clients and creatives. It also allows every stylist to bring their own personality, specialism and creativity into the salon.
From the start, we wanted the salon to feel different from a traditional salon experience. We wanted it to feel more relaxed, inclusive and welcoming.
Sustainability at our heart
Sustainability has also always been a huge part of our journey. We work hard to reduce waste, recycle wherever possible and use vegan and cruelty free products throughout the salon.
Award-winning recognition
That commitment has recently gained national recognition. The Hair Salon was featured in The Hairdressers Journal Online for our work as a sustainable salon. We were also featured in Pro Hair Magazine's The Design Edit, which highlighted our conscientious salon design and sustainable efforts.
2026 has already been an exciting year for us. In March, we won Gold for Design Salon at The Salon Business Awards. Just days later, we also won Health and Beauty Space of the Year at the Brighton Girl Awards. Receiving recognition from both the industry and the local community felt incredibly special for our team.
Giving back to our community
Community involvement is a huge part of what we do outside the salon too. Most recently, our team completed a charity walk from Newhaven to Brighton. Together, we raised over £1,000 for local environmental organisation Leave No Trace Brighton.
We're passionate about supporting local causes and collaborating with like minded businesses. We love connecting with people who care about creativity, wellbeing and sustainability within the city.
Over the years, we've built a loyal client community by combining high quality hairdressing with a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Whether clients visit for a full transformation or a regular appointment, we want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome in the space.
Looking ahead to our fifth year
As we head into our fifth year, we're excited about what's next. We're looking forward to new collaborations, more community projects and continuing to grow in a way that reflects our values.
Earlier this May, we celebrated our fifth birthday with a party at the salon. It was wonderful to have our team, family and friends all together in one room to celebrate such a special milestone.
