Brighton Spiegeltent 2024

Welcome once again to Brighton Spiegeltent!

Our very special vintage travelling venues come to us from Belgium, the Tivoli Spiegeltent and Amsterdam, the Bosco Theater. And we’re planning a very special surprise attraction that we can’t even talk about yet!

We have an incredible season of showstopping cabarets headlined by the sublime United Queendom: Smooch, with the captivating circus duo Little Finch hosting an international melange of twisty treats. Circus, Variety, Burlesque, Fashion and Fun. If you see one show this is one to remember!

From Australia we are thrilled to welcome back Dizney in Drag: Once Upon a Parody from The Hairy Godmothers with their unique mix of storytelling, theatre, and musical prowess in a Whole New World you didn’t know you needed! Fresh from sensational Australian festival seasons they are not to be missed. While their sister show, Wet explores the vast oceans of femininity and femaleness in this uplifting comedy-cabaret with heart.

Our Big Nights Out include RuPaul’s Drag Race Winner Ginger Johnson, “Brilliant, bizarre, and completely unmissable!” and our very own star and Brighton cabaret royalty Joe Black. While the young pretender Alfie Ordinary treats us to his House of Fun. David Hoyle brings his inimitable irreverence and Séayoncé his mystical debauchery and camp theatrics both descending on Brighton Spiegeltent for one night only!

Returning favourites Cabaret Boheme & The Revolver Revue deliver the spectacle and sparkle opening and closing our season – with powerhouse vocals, exquisite circus skills and breathtaking burlesque. Cabaret Continentale bringing you more international fantasy and a special taster one-nighter from exciting brand-new ensemble Revudeville.

Supporting Brighton's culture and arts

We love Brighton’s music culture and grassroots venues, and we like to complement those with some gigs you might not see in town. We’ve got a spicy Latin Day of Dance and Music with dance classes, live bands, and club night; Fail Better Family bring us an eclectic melting pot of musical treats; we’ve got Herbie’s Jazz Breakfasts cooking once again; Future Jazz; Big Band Swing and many more tasty musical treats.

For our own Kings, Queens, and everything in between - inclusive, radical and hella creative, it’s the phenomenal Brighton Big Drag Pageant. The hottest ticket of festivals season! If you like you’re a bit more intimate the Bosco Theater is full of gems, treasures and trinkets to escape and explore. Take a chance. There’s variety thrills and spills with the outrageous Der Wunderlich Revue; the effervescent SASSY!; and Bad Luck Cabaret, a variety show with a bite from our fave cabaret synthstress Laurie Black

We’re excited to welcome back BJA Productions’ Weekend of Weird across the second Bank Holiday weekend presenting 15 of the weirdest and most wonderful comedians gathered in Brighton at last. Comedy like you’ve never seen before. There are hot acts from London and the world, loads of Kids & Family shows in the day and full-on-fun, old-school dance events you can participate in.

Late on the weekends we’ll clear the chairs and have legendary club nights & DJs join us on the most beautiful dance floor in town. With a fully accessible site we literally have something for everyone!

Make the most of this iconic festival

We’re only here for 4 weeks so don’t miss out…come to escape and explore the haphazard, chaotic, and intimate brilliance. We can’t wait to welcome you and see all your fab faces at the Spiegeltent. With the biggest shout out to YOU

– the audience, for showing up and making it all possible!

Brighton Spiegeltent is proudly created by Brighton people for Brighton people. We support, celebrate and employ local creatives, suppliers and contractors while inviting international performers and performance makers to come and play with us, sharing their skills and knowledge and above all their incredible talent.

We present contemporary circus, alternative cabaret, dance events of every flavour, physical and interactive shows and music gigs, and we produce cabaret and variety shows along with supporting and developing the hardest-working local artists and creatives.

Ten years of Brighton Spielgeltent

This is our tenth year (without a 2020 event for Covid), and to be honest it’s never been harder. But after Brexit, Covid and in the current economic challenges - we passionately believe that our end of the cultural ecosystem is more important than ever. Events like ours bring life, energy, excitement and fun into our lives and above all they bring people together.

We have so many ambitions for our performers, communities and audiences, ambitions to reach more people with great cultural events that are affordable, and with open gates rather than behind those ‘big doors’ – be those actual, perceived or institutional. As underdogs we were always scrappy and passionate and we’ve fought hard for the incredible relationships that we have built up and down the creative world - we’re so grateful for every person that took a chance with us, worked with us and helped us develop as a new inventive venture.

As we’ve grown to feel established, both here and internationally, we hope we’re the same organisation that we were when we started; imaginative, honest and maybe a little over-emotional. And we’re super-proud to be part of an independent grassroots in this brilliant city that is pulling together, supporting each other and developing new relationships in response to these challenges. Cherish our arts and our city. Look after each other. And let’s wish us all well for this year and our future!
